Nigeria: More Than 20 Killed After Suicide Bombers Detonate Explosives at a Mosque and Market in Mubi

Abuja, May 1: Over 20 people have lost their lives in Nigeria's Mubi town after two suicide bombers detonated their explosives on Tuesday. As per reports by local media, the explosion took place at a mosque in Mubi, Adamawa State in northeast Nigeria. Reports inform that the deadly blast took place when devotees were holding Zuhr prayer on Tuesday afternoon.
As per reports, the injured ones are undergoing a treatment at hospitals, according to the police. The exact number of the injured is still unknown. According to a report by BBC, a medical source at the Mubi General Hospital said they had "so far received 37 dead bodies and dozens of injured from the two blast scenes". Residents informed that the explosion was set off by a teenager using a suicide vest. "We have evacuated dozens of dead and injured people to the hospital and the rescue operation is still ongoing," local volunteer Habu Saleh told AFP.
Nigeria has been witnessing an insurgency of the Boko Haram terrorists since 2009. Boko Haram has staged a number of terror attacks, including the 2011 bombing of a UN office in the country's capital of Abuja. which killed 21 people.
According to a report by BBC, the State police commissioner Abdullahi Yerima said the first blast took place at the mosque at about 13:00 (12:00 GMT) and a second bomber detonated a device nearby as worshippers fled. It must be noted that Mubi, where the explosion took place has suffered regular attacks by Boko Haram. In 2017, about 50 people were killed when suspected militants detonated a suicide bomb inside a mosque in the same town.
