New Delhi, Aug 9: The list of world's 25 smartest cities of 2018 has been released by the IESE Business School's Centre for Globalisation and Strategy. As per the list compiled, New York maintains its position on the top -- for the second year in a row.

The list of top-25 fails to feature any Indian city, which comes as a setback to the ruling dispensation in New Delhi which had promised to create 100 smart cities after the new government was elected in mid-2014.

While the top three positions have been secured by New York, London and Paris respectively, four cities from Asia make it to the top-10. They are: Tokyo (4), Singapore (6), Seoul (7) and Hong Kong (9).

Criteria for compiling the list of top-25

The survey analyses a total of 165 cities spread across 80 countries to find the 25 best smart cities in the world. A total of nine dimensions are considered: human capital, social cohesion, economy, environment, governance, urban planning, international outreach, technology, and mobility and transportation.

According to IESE report, the top three cities - New York, London and Paris - perform well on all indicators. However, survey redflags the rising threat to social cohesion in the three cities, with incidents of racism and other forms of discrimination on the rise. Only three cities - Amsterdam, Seoul and Melbourne - have performed moderately on all indicators.
