Kathmandu, July 15: Death toll due to incessant rainfall, floods and landslides in Nepal jumped to 65 on Monday. According to details by Nepal Police, while 65 have lost their lives, 38 people have been injured and search for 30 missing is underway. Reports inform that as many as 1146 people rescued till now from 22 flood-hit districts while the number of affected people stands at around 2.6 million, officials informed. The incessant rains in Nepal caused flood-like situations in several parts, flooding homes across the nation. Nepal Floods: Parts of Kathmandu Submerged Under Floodwaters After Heavy Rainfall.

Nepal has been witnessing torrential rains since Thursday evening. Parts of the capital Kathmandu have been left submerged under floodwaters. As per data from Simara station of the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the Himalayan nation has witnessed heavy rainfall in an indication of the changing rainfall pattern. Reports inform that torrential rains caused landslides and flooding in southern Tarai plains, and threw normal life out of gear in central and eastern parts of the country.

Water Level in 4 Rivers Cross Danger Mark

The Flood Forecasting Section (FFS) informed that the water level in Bagmati, Kamala, Saptakoshi and its tributary the Sunkoshi has crossed the danger mark.  According to a report by IANS, the Simara station received the highest rainfall in the latest wet spell. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division,  Simara recorded 311.9 mm rainfall In the 24-hour period since Thursday evening.

Nepal Prone to Variety of Natural and Man-Induced Disasters

With a rugged topography, ecological conditions, prevalence of a number of flood-prone rivers, rapid and unplanned urbanization, poverty, inequality and uneven development, Nepal is exposed to a variety of natural and man-induced disasters.

Apart from Nepal, the northeastern Indian state of Assam, which is Nepal's border state, has also been hit by torrential rains since Thursday. As many has 10 people have died in several districts while 2 million others in the region have been affected, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.
