Kathmandu, July 16: The death toll from incessant rains, floods and landslides in Nepal has jumped to 78 on Tuesday. According to details by Nepal Home Ministry, 40 people have been injured while 32 people are still missing. The Nepal Police informed that over 3,366 people rescued from 31 flood hit districts across the nation to safer places. The Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were deployed in the disaster-hit districts to carry out rescue and relief operations. According to the Home Ministry, about 35,000 people were affected by the disasters particularly in the low-lying areas known as Terai region. Reports inform that over 20 of Nepal's 77 districts were worst-hit due to the floods and landslides.
Due to torrential rains in the country, residents in several parts were displaced after the swollen rivers breached and gushed into human settlements. The Meteorological Forecasting Division of Nepal informed that though water levels in many major rivers is coming down gradually, rainfall will continue in many places across the country and has warned public to stay alert.
