Nepal Floods: 50 Dead, Parts of Kathmandu Submerged Under Floodwaters After Heavy Rainfall

Nepal has been battered with heavy rainfall. 43 people have lost their lives while six others are reported to be missing due to floods. Parts of the capital Kathmandu have been left submerged under floodwaters.

Kathmandu, July 14: At least 50 people have died and over 20 people have been injured due to flooding and landslide Nepal, following incessant rainfall. According to details by Nepal Police, while 50 people have lost their lives, 33 others are still missing and efforts to find them are underway. Parts of the capital Kathmandu have been left submerged under floodwaters. According to reports, over 200 places across Nepal have been identified as susceptible to monsoon-induced disasters.

Rescue teams were on hand to distribute relief and conduct search and rescue operations, Bed Nidhi Khanal, chief of the Nepal Emergency Operation Center, Efe news reported. According to the prediction by the Meteorological Forecasting Division of Nepal,  on Monday (July 15), widespread rain from moderate to heavy scale has been forecast and the extremely heavy downpour is likely to hit few places of the eastern region and some parts of the western hilly region.

Reports inform that at least 50 people have been rescued from various places across the country so far. In the wake of the natural disaster that has battered Nepal, Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli has expressed his condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the flooding and landslides. "I offer deep condolences to the families who lost their members in the disaster," Oli tweeted.

In its special bulletin, the Meteorological Forecasting Division on Saturday had warned of widespread rain from moderate to heavy scale which is likely to continue till Sunday. It is worth mentioning that the monsoon trough is presently based in the vicinity of Tarai of eastern Nepal and hilly territory of western Nepal. "There are chances of heavy rainfall at a few places of the eastern and central regions and at one or two places of the western Tarai region today. Heavy rainfall is expected at a few places of the eastern and central hilly regions and at one or two places of the western hilly region has been predicted," the bulletin stated.
