Narendra Modi Receives Seoul Peace Prize in South Korea, Says It's Time to Unite to Eradicate Terror

The Prime Minister said he is honoured that this award is being conferred to him in the year that is celebrated as the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Seoul, February 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to South Korea, received the Seoul Peace Prize on Friday. On receiving the award, the Prime Minister said the award belongs to people of India for what the nation has achieved in the last few years. "The award doesn't belong to me personally but to the people of India. The success India has achieved in the last 5 years, powered by the skill of 1.3 billion people", Modi said. The Prime Minister said he is honoured that this award is being conferred to him in the year that is celebrated as the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Narendra Modi Receives Philip Kotler Presidential Award for Outstanding Leadership. 

Narendra Modi reached the South Korean capital on Thursday. He unveiled a Mahatma Gandhi bust, besides accepting the Seoul Peace Prize and had several business and political engagements. Modi, who is visiting South Korea on invitation from President Moon Jae-in, is believed to hold multiple discussions with President Moon, several business leaders and members of the Indian community during the trip.

Taking about terrorism, PM Modi said the time has come to join hands and unite to completely eradicate terrorist networks. "A few weeks before the Seoul Olympics(1988), an organization called Al-Qaeda was formed,Today, radicalization and terrorism have become global and are the biggest threats to world peace and security", Modi said in his address. He quoted a portion of the 1988 Olympics Theme Song and said- 'Hand in hand, we stand, all across the land, we can make this world, a better place in which to live'. Narendra Modi Receives ‘Champions of the Earth’ Award.

MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that the visit would strengthen India's strategic partnership with South Korea and add dynamism to the Look East Policy. "As fellow democracies, India and ROK have shared values and a vision for world peace. As fellow market economies, our needs and strengths are complementary," PM Modi had tweeted ahead of the trip.

This is the Prime Minister's second state visit to the Asian nation. He is scheduled to address the India-Korea business symposium and unveil a bust of Gandhi at the Yonsei University.
