Washington, May 2: A day after the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) designated Pakistan based terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar as global terrorist, United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo applauded the US team for their efforts in the negotiations with the other permanent members. The statement by Pompeo is an indication that the US support for India is intact.
Applauding the team for their efforts in moving a step ahead for bringing peace in South Asia, Pompeo took to Twitter and wrote, "Congrats to our team @USUN for their work in negotiating JEM's Masood Azhar's #UN designation as a terrorist. In the statement, the UNSC - while declaring Azhar as global terrorist - stated, "Mohammad Masood Azhar Alvi was listed on 1 May 2019 pursuant to paragraphs 2 and 4 of resolution 2368 (2017) as being associated with Al-Qaida for “participating in the financing, planning, facilitating, preparing, or perpetrating of acts or activities by, in conjunction with, under the name of, on behalf of, or in support of”, “supplying, selling or transferring arms and related material to”, “recruiting for”, “otherwise supporting acts or activities of”, and “other acts or activities indicating association with."
After the UNSC's declaration of Azhar as a global terrorist, his assets freeze, travel ban and an arms embargo are on the cards. With Pakistan itself declaring that Masood Azhar is in their country, Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan has assured the global community of taking stringent action. Pakistan even stated that it would make sure JeM chief would not slip away in the meantime.
