Maulana Tariq Jameel Suffers 'Heart Attack', Undergoes Angioplasty at Lahore Hospital

Lahore, January 1: Pakistan-based revered Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel was on Tuesday rushed to a private hospital in the Jauhar Town neighbourhood of Lahore after he suffered an heart attack. His condition is now reported to be stable, after successfully undergoing angioplasty. The team of doctors treating him have unblocked one of his arteries which was clogged.

Jameel, one of the topmost Islamic preachers of Pakistan, is associated with the Tablighi Jamaat -- which is ideologically committed to the Deobandi branch of the Hanafi school of thought.
He returned to Pakistan last night, after a completing an extensive tour in Canada where he addressed multiple events organised by the Tablighi Jamaat.
The 65-year-old, who was ranked at number 40 in the 2019 list of the ‘World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims’, comes from medical educational background. After clearing the pre-medical tests, he had secured admission at the coveted King Edwards Medical College in Lahore. However, Jameel subsequently switched to Islamic education.
Maulana Jameel was trained as an Islamic scholar at the Jamia Arabia, where he extensively studied the Holy Quran, Hadith and Islamic jurisprudence, along with Sufism.
Experts claim that Jameel's popularity among urban Muslims resonates due to his science background, which allows him to explain Islamic matters in modern context. Apart from being well-versed in Urdu, he also capitulates Muslim audiences with the fluency of his Arabic.
