Mark Zuckerberg Becomes World’s Third Richest Person, Facebook Founder Overtakes Warren Buffett: List of top 10 Richest People
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Zuckerberg, who trails only Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos and Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates has overtaken Buffett, who was once the world’s wealthiest person.
Washington, July 7: Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook Inc. co-founder has left behind Warren Buffett, the chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc, to become the world’s third-richest person. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Zuckerberg, who trails only Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos and Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates has overtaken Buffett, who was once the world’s wealthiest person.
In the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Jeff Bezos accounts a net worth of $142B, followed by Bill Gates and Zuckerberg with $94.2B and $81.6B respectively while Warren Buffett accounts for a net worth of $81.2B. The others in the top ten include Amancio Ortega, Bernard Arnault, Carlos Slim, Larry Page, Sergey Brin and Larry Ellison.

This is for the first time that the three wealthiest people who have made it to the top ranking made their fortunes from technology. Reports inform that the 34-year old Facebook co-founder is now worth $81.6 billion, about $373 million more than Buffett, the 87-year-old chairman and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
According to a report by TOI, Buffett has gone down in the ranking due to his to his charitable giving, which he kicked off in earnest in 2006. The report further informs that Buffett has donated about 290 million Berkshire Hathaway Class B shares to charities, most of it to Gates’s foundation.
