Islamabad/New Delhi, August 8: A day after downgrading the diplomatic ties with India and expelling its Indian envoy over Article 370's abrogation over Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan on Thursday turned down Narendra Modi government's request for 'unimpeded consular access' to former Indian naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav - who is on a death row.
According to a report, published in the Hindustan Times, Imran Khan-led Pakistan government announced a slew of retaliatory actions in response to India’s decision to strip Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. Among them, turning down Narendra Modi government's request for 'unimpeded consular access' was also the one. Earlier, India on Friday asked Pakistan to provide 'unimpeded' contact with the Indian national on death row of Kulbhushan Jhadav after Pakistan offered consular access in its current form. Also, the Indian has effectively turned down Pakistan's offer of conditional consular access.
Modi government on Monday abrogated the special provisions for Jammu and Kashmir - empowered to the under Article 370. Along with this, the Centre also bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Following this, Pakistan downgraded the diplomatic ties with India on Wednesday.
