Japan Heatwave: Scorching Temperatures Kill 30, Send Thousands Hospital; Warning Issued

Tokyo, July 22: Less than a month after flooding killed more than 200 people in western Japan, a heatwave has killed at least 30 people in the country. Thousands of people across Japan were hospitalised for heat-related conditions amid scorching temperatures. Authorities urged people to take precautions against the deadly heatwave.
At least 10,000 people were taken to hospital with heat stroke and related symptoms since the temperatures began rising, according to Japan Times. Tempratures in some areas of the country reached as high as 40.7 degrees Celsius, while in Kyoto it remained 39.8 Celsius for seven days in a row for the first time since records began in the 19th Century.
After the death of a six-year-old boy last week, the education ministry warned school authorities to take precautions against heat stroke. Japan's meteorological agency urged people to drink sufficient water to prevent heat exhaustion, BBC reported.
