Mumbai, August 7: In a tragic incident, an Italian tourist fell to his death while attempting to take a selfie at a popular Gajah Mas Waterfall in Bali. The 80-foot fall occurred when the railing collapsed as he and his girlfriend posed for a selfie. While the girlfriend survived with minor injuries, the man died instantly. She has declined an autopsy and is now arranging to return his body to Italy.
According to a report by the New York Post, the man, identified as Giancarlo Zicari, was a 49-year-old man on a trip with his 25-year-old girlfriend, Ilaria Biagi. The couple was posing at the top of Gajah Mas Waterfall when the iron railing they were leaning on gave way. The couple fell from a height equivalent to an eight-story building, landing at the base of the popular tourist spot. The authorities confirmed the incident but did not comment on the railing’s liability. The victim was transported to Prof. Ngoerah Hospital (RSUP Sanglah) in Denpasar, and his family opted against an autopsy.
