Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's Son Yair Retorts With Abuse to Turkey's Criticism of 'Massacre in Gaza'
The post, that sparked controversy is believed to abuse Turkey after its President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed Israel for the killings in recent Gaza protest.
Jerusalem, May 17: Amid the diplomatic row between Israel and Turkey over Monday’s ‘massacre’ in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s son, Yair on Wednesday made an Instagram post that read “F*ck Turkey”. The post, that sparked controversy is believed to abuse Turkey after its President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed Israel for the killings in recent Gaza protest.
Yair seems to have deleted his account, but screenshots of his post have gone viral on social media. A Netanyahu spokesperson was quoted by Haaretz saying, “Yair Netanyahu is a private person, as is his Instagram account." As per reports, Yair Netanyahu posted an image of the text that looked like the Turkish flag, which is red with a white star and crescent, to his Instagram story. In the image, the crescent replaced the letter ‘c’ in the word ‘f*ck.’
According to reports by the Sputnik agency on Thursday, Yair Netanyahu took to his Instagram account to post a controversial picture depicting a morphed Turkish national flag. Turkish envoy to the UN, Feridun Hadi Sinirlioǧlu had earlier said what Israel is perpetrating in Gaza is a textbook example of massacre and genocide.
The controversial post comes after a diplomatic row between Turkey and Israel broke out following the clashes on Monday wherein over 60 Palestinian protesters were killed by the Israeli forces on the Gaza Strip. They were there to take part in the Great March of Return and condemn the inauguration of the US embassy in Jerusalem. According to a report by ANI, social media users immediately re-tweeted the picture as some of them criticised Yair for his comments. The original post, however, was withdrawn later.
To recall, Turkey expelled Israel's ambassador Eitan Naeh from the country on Tuesday. Reportedly, he was subjected to a "humiliating" security check at Istanbul airport. Meanwhile, the Turkish and Israeli Prime Ministers exchanged jibes as Erdogan called Benjamin Netanyahu "the PM of an apartheid state" who "has the blood of Palestinians on his hands" while Netanyahu in his turn lambasted Erdogan for "the occupation of northern Cyprus" and "invading Syria."
