Hurricane 'Lane' Intensifies to Category 5; Hawaii Faces Risk of Flash Floods, Mudslides

Hawaii, August 22: Category 5 hurricane warning have been issued for Hawaii County by the weather agencies. A hurricane watch is in effect for Maui County, Oahu County and Honolulu Counties as well, according to reports. It is almost certain now that Lane, a powerful dangerous hurricane will hit Hawaii. Category 5 hurricane warning means that catastrophic damage will occur.
Hurricane 'Lane', a Category 5 hurricane is several hundred miles southeast of Hawaii.
Earlier, the hurricane was expected to be of category 3 status but strengthened to Category 5 in intensity, posing a threat to Hawaii between Thursday and Sunday.
According to The Weather Channel, flash floods, mudslides, and coastal flooding are likely to be caused by Hurricane Lane.
The current status of the hurricane Lane is reportedly 350 miles south-southeast of the Big Island's Kona coast. Lane is an extremely devastating Category 5 hurricane with 160 mph winds.
The National Weather Service (NWS) tweeted about the hurricane warning for the Hawaiian Islands. Check the tweet below:
"In Hawaii, abundant moisture from Hurricane #Lane is expected to move over the big island late Wednesday and spread to the rest of the islands through Friday. Intense rainfall is possible. The risk of flooding will only increase as hurricane Lane approaches," tweeted Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
FEMA tweeted about the measures that people need to take, in order to stay safe when the hurricane hits the island. The three steps given to people are 1) Check emergency kit and restock it. 2) Review evacuation guidance for the area. 3) Keep the gas tank filled in the car.
