According to a report on CNN, South Korea's President Moon Jae-in has convinced North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is the best site for President Trump and Kim Jong-Un's summit and Donald Trump has reportedly agreed to it.

The news was broken on CNN’s show by reporter Will Ripley. The development comes just three days after Kim Jong-un met with Moon Jae-in at the DMZ in a historic meet which was also the first time Kim traveled outside of North Korea. The meet in Panmunjom last Friday, resulted in an agreement to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and formally end the Korean War.

Kim and Moon pledged to seek a formal end to the Korean War by year's end and to rid the peninsula of nuclear weapons. According to Seoul, Kim told Moon that he would shut down his country's only known nuclear testing site and allow outside experts and journalists to watch the process.

CNN reports there is a "strong possibility" the summit will be held at the site, with some events possibly scheduled on the northern side of the military demarcation line separating the two countries, according to an official with deep knowledge of North Korea's thinking on the matter.

The news comes after U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that he gave the idea for the meet to be held with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un in the Demilitarized Zone that divides the Koreas.

Trump had even tweeted out his suggestion, “Numerous countries are being considered for the MEETING, but would Peace House/Freedom House, on the Border of North & South Korea, be a more Representative, Important and Lasting site than a third party country? Just asking!” referring to buildings located on the southern side of the DMZ.

Trump in his rally in Washington over the weekend had said the time and location of the meeting with Kim, slated for May or early June, are being set. The U.S. President has previously said that five locations were being considered, but on Friday said the choice had been narrowed to two or three.

If the Trump-Kim meet does happen then it would be the first U.S.-North Korean leadership summit in more than six decades of hostility since the 1950-53 Korean War.
