Earlier in the day, Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, addressed a press conference in Lahore and accused the government of violation of his fundamental rights. He said that no lawyer would take up a case if the lawyer is not even allowed or given the requisite time to prepare for the case. This statement was in context to Sharif's lawyer excusing himself from the case citing conflict of interest.
Sharif's lawyer Khawaja Haris had recused himself from fighting the former PM's case and the court had asked Nawaz Sharif to get a new lawyer for himself. Here is the video of the press conference:
The Supreme Court had asked the accountability court, which is hearing Nawaz Sharif's case to hold court on weekends as well so as to fasten the case hearing. Sharif had complained in the press conference today and questioned the chief justice asking if he knew what he was doing.
Nawaz Sharif held the prosecution responsible for the delay and claimed that he or his lawyer Harris, who has now left the case, never did anything to delay the hearing of the cases.
Sharif and his family is under judicial scrutiny over the Panama Papers. The Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Sharif from holding public office in the Panama Papers case in 2017, which ousted him as the Prime Minister of Pakistan and later ruled that the disqualification of Sharif from holding public office would be for life.
