Former CIA Deputy Director David Cohen Makes a Cameo in GoT Season 8 Episode 2
A former CIA Deputy Director, David Cohen made a surprise and brief cameo as an unnamed resident of Winterfell during Sunday's episode of HBO's "Game of Thrones."
Mumbai, April 23: As the characters in Winterfell try to rally the troops before the arrival of the Night King, a famous name from the US intelligence community popped up on screen in the second episode of Game of Thrones Season 8, as a man who was recruited by Sir Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham).
Sunday’s Game of Thrones episode called “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, had a cameo from none other than the former deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). An HBO spokeswoman confirmed that David S. Cohen, who served at the CIA from 2015 to 2017 made a special appearance on the show as a recruit.
Cohen was one of the men who got a hot meal from Davos Seaworth – and then drafted into the army to defend Winterfell, the agency wrote on its Twitter account on Sunday night. The second man in line, Cohen wore a hood but didn't have any lines.
"Little birds, be on the lookout for a former deputy director of ours wandering through Westeros in tonight's episode," the CIA tweeted, referencing the term used to describe agents of former spymaster Lord Varys (Conleth Hill).
"As Arya might say, a man with no name," Cohen noted, before teasing the agency, "Way to blow my cover."
Cohen revealed after the broadcast of the episode that he managed to make an appearance on one of the most popular fantasy shows in the history of television because his brother-in-law is none other than, David Benioff, the show’s co-creator. The former CIA deputy director reportedly asked Benioff in 2017 if he could be an extra and Benioff obliged. Cohen joins the list of other famous personalities like Ed Sheeran, Martin Starr and Rob McElhenney - who have been granted a brief moment on-screen during the popular series.
Before he was at the CIA, Cohen has also served as the under-secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence at the U.S. Treasury Department. Basically, the CIA has its spies everywhere, even in Winterfell.
