Port Talbot, April 26: Three major explosions were heard at Port Talbot's Tata steelworks in South Wales on Friday. As soon as the incident was reported, emergency services were rushed to the spot in Port Talbot. A series a series of explosions were heard from the town's steelworks and smoke was seen rising from the steel plant in South Wales. Port Talbot is a town and community in the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, Wales.

According to reports, scores of local residents reported hearing a series of huge bangs coming from the Tata steelwork site. Few also said that  accounts of seeing a fireball int the moments after the explosions. According to reports, around 4,000 people are employed at the steelworks in Port Talbot, one of the largest sites of its type in Europe. According to walesonline.co.uk, the plant makes around 5m tonnes of slab steel a year. Tata Steel to Have 10 Per Cent Women on Its Shopfloor by 2025.

The South Wales Police confirmed the incident and said, 'At this time we believe only two casualties with minor injuries Please avoid the area at this time'.  "South Wales Police are aware of an incident in TATA Steelworks, Port Talbot. Emergency services are in attendance and further information will be released shortly. Thank you for your patience", the force tweeted.

Meanwhile, Tata Steel in Europe tweeted saying they are dealing with an incident at their Port Talbot site. "Emergency services assisting our own personnel. Updates to come", it tweeted.  "We can confirm there are no serious injuries and all employees have been accounted for. All fires are now under control", Tata Steel in Europe tweeted.

In 2001, the plant had witnessed a major explosion when blast furnace five exploded, killing three people and injuring 12 others.
