Dhaka, June 15: While most of the Islamic world will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Saturday, ambiguity remains in Bangladesh where Ramadan ul-Kareem began on May 18, a day later than other nations. Muslims in the South Asian nation have observed 29 fasts till today. If the Hilal crescent will be sighted this evening, Eid will be celebrated tomorrow. If the moon remains invisible, then the festival would be observed on Sunday. Stay tuned here for the live updates of Eid moon sighting in Bangladesh.
The National Moon Sighting Committee, earlier in the day, announced it would be meeting after namaz-e-maghrib to decide whether the moon has been sighted or not. The Committee had deployed its authorised personnel earlier in the day to spot the crescent in all parts of the nation. The local populace has also been asked to submit their testimonies after sighting the Hilal moon.
Along with Bangladesh, the Indian states of Maharashtra, Assam and West Bengal also began Ramadan a day later than most parts of the world. The three provinces will also attempt to sight the moon today. Meanwhile, Eid al-Fitr celebrations have been confirmed in the rest of India. Interestingly, the two coastal provinces of Kerala and Gujarat celebrated Eid today as the crescent was sighted in its peripheries on Thursday.
