Eid moon has not been sighted in Sri Lanka, confirmed the Colombo Grand Mosque. With this development, Eid in Sri Lanka will be celebrated on Saturday. However, some sects observed Ramadan a day later, from May 18. Those sects will observe Eid al-Fitr on Sunday if the moon is not sighted tomorrow. However, the possibility remains unlikely as new moon will mostly be sighted in all parts of the world.

Eid Moon has not been sighted in New Zealand, according to the statement issued by the Hilal Committee of Auckland. Eid-al-Fitr will therefore be celebrated on June 16.

Eid moon has not been sighted in Australia. The National Imam Council in Sydney has announced that Eid al-Fitr prayers will be held on Saturday, June 16. Going by the precedent, it is unlikely that the Hilal crescent will be spotted in Fiji, Brunei, Maldives, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. The official announcement from these nations is however awaited.

If the Hilal crescent will be sighted today, Eid-al-Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow. If the moon remains unsighted, the festival will be celebrated on Saturday. Meanwhile, attempts are also underway to sight the crescent moon in the neighbouring Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. According to the fatwa issued by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, Eid will be celebrated in Australia on Saturday. However, other Muftis may differ.
According to the International Astronomical Centre, the sighting of moon is difficult today in this part of the world. In South and Southeast Asia, the crescent might be spotted using telescopic ad optical aid, the IAC had said, further adding that the possibility remains unlikely.
On the other hand, the moon is likely to be sighted in Saudi Arabia and most of the Middle East today post namaz-e-maghrib. According to IAC, the crescent in Riyadh will be visible for a shirt duration in Riyadh 42 minutes after sunset.
Eid-al-Fitr is one of the two major festivals in the Islamic world, the other being Eid-al-Adha. This Eid also marks the end of Ramadan - the month in which Muslims are duty-bound to fast from dawn to dusk.
