Mumbai, August 1: On July 27, an easyJet co-pilot fainted during a flight from London to Portugal. Paramedics met the co-pilot upon landing and transported him to Lisbon's Santa Maria Hospital for treatment. A rare red alert was issued in response, a mandatory safety measure impacting half of the plane's operations. Despite the incident, the flight carrying 193 passengers landed safely and by protocols.

Independent reported that there was a three-hour delay because of the incident as the industry standards mandate that two pilots must be in the cockpit on commercial flights for safety reasons. After the incident, a spokesperson at easyJet Airways said, "easyJet can confirm that the paramedics met the flight EZY2459 from Luton to Lisbon upon landing due to a pilot member feeling unwell." British Airways Server Down? "The captain landed the flight routinely in accordance with procedures, and passengers disembarked normally. At no point was the safety of the flight compromised. The safety and welfare of passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority," he added. Pilot Collapses and Dies in Bathroom of LATAM Airlines Flight, Co-Pilot Conducts Plane's Emergency Landing in Panama.

However, the team also mentioned that this was not the first time a pilot had become ill during a flight. Earlier In October, the captain and co-pilot of a British Airways flight reported a "foul odour" while flying at 30,000 feet and subsequently fell ill in the cockpit. The incident occurred on the morning of October 19 during a BA Shuttle 13C flight from Newcastle to London. The aircraft landed at Heathrow around 9 in the morning, where emergency services met it upon arrival.
