Shillong, August 14: An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 on Richter scale struck Eastern Xizang-India Border Region on Wednesday. According to the India Meteorological Department, the tremors were felt in the region at 1:44 pm. However, there are no reports of any casualties. The region is prone to moderate to high-intensity tremors. Earlier in July this year, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale rocked the region. However, no casualties were reported. Earthquake in Maharashtra: Quake of Magnitude 4.8 Hits Satara Region.
In April also, tremors of 5.9 magnitude struck the Xizang-India border. In 1950, close to 4,800 people were killed when an earthquake measuring 8.6 hit Mishmi Hills in Tibet close to the Indian border.
