A powerful earthquake struck Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia on Friday ahead of two quarterfinals of the 2018 FIFA Football World Cup.

Moscow, July 6: A powerful earthquake of 6.1 magnitude hit Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia on Friday ahead of two quarterfinals of the 2018 FIFA  Football World Cup. The earthquake struck 58 miles east of Ozernovskiy at about 1:40 am.

Football World Cup matches are unlikely to be affected as the Kamchatka Peninsula is located a long way from any of the venues being used for the tournament.

No damage was reported after the quake shook the Kamchatka Peninsula. No tsunami warnings have been issued. Thousands of football fans currently in Russia for the World Cup. Further details were awaited.

In 1952, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake generated Tsunami in the Kamchatka Peninsula. Meanwhile, France's lightning quick attack will be put to their toughest test when they take on Uruguay's unbreachable defence in a FIFA World Cup quarter-final clash today.
