Earthquake in Alaska: Quake of Magnitude 6.2 Hits Andreanof and Aleutian Islands in US

A strong earthquake of Magnitude 6.2 on the Richter scale hit the Andreanof Islands and the Aleutian Islands in the United States of America (USA). According to a tweet by ANI, the quake rattled the two islands at 0905 Hrs (IST) in Alaska, USA.

Alaska, August 23: A strong earthquake of Magnitude 6.2 on the Richter scale hit the Andreanof Islands and the Aleutian Islands in the United States of America (USA). According to a tweet by ANI, the quake rattled the two islands at 0905 Hrs (IST) in Alaska, USA. On August 16, an earthquake of a magnitude of 6.5 rocked a remote chain of Alaska islands in the Pacific Ocean. Reports inform that scientists offered reassurances after concerns that it could trigger a tsunami.

On August 15,  another quake of 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit Alaska, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The massive quake took place near the Andreanof Islands of Alaska in the Aleutian Islands chain. The epicentre was located at a depth of 31 kilometres (19 miles) between Alaska and Russia.

On Wednesday, an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hit the coast of south-central Oregon in the US. The United States Geological Survey says quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 struck just after 1:30 a.m., more than 264 kilometers west of Coos Bay, Oregon.

Earlier this week, multiple quakes rocked the Indonesian holiday island of Lombok, leaving at least 10 people dead. The powerful quake triggered landslides and sent people fleeing for cover as parts of Lombok suffered blackouts.
