New Delhi, July 10: Dyson, the British appliance manufacturer, has reportedly announced its plans to lay off nearly 1,000 jobs in the UK, representing over a quarter of its workforce in the country. The company, which was started by James Dyson, has around 3,500 employees in the UK. The company might be currently going through a process of global restructuring to get ready for its future plans.
As per a report of Hindustan Times, Dyson to lay off around 1,000 employees in Britain. Dyson CEO Hanno Kirner stated, "We have grown quickly and, like all companies, we review our global structures from time to time to ensure we are prepared for the future. As such, we are proposing changes to our organisation, which may result in redundancies." Hanno Kirner further added that Dyson is a company that operates in highly competitive global markets. These markets are always shifting and changing by producing new products continually. Dyson wants to be at the top of other firms because it is innovative and flexible. They wish to keep their entrepreneurial spirit intact so as to swiftly react to market changes. The proposed job cuts in Britain is expected to impact Dyson's workforce with over a quarter of its UK employees. Dyson has gone through many changes in its operations over the past years. In 2002, it started moving the manufacturing operation to Malaysia from Malmesbury and in 2013, it established a plant in Singapore for making digital motors. Also, Dyson relocated its headquarters to Singapore in 2019 getting closer to their factories and Asian markets that are responsible for the bulk of their sales. Besides working on their other projects, Dyson also worked on developing electric vehicles as part of their other projects. However, they decided to stop the project in 2019.
