Washington, November 9: Incumbent US President Donald Trump would face strict action by Twitter for violating the company's policies once he leaves the White House in January, 2021. According to reports, Donald Trump will no longer enjoy privileges that a world leader gets from Twitter once Joe Biden takes over as US President on January 20, 2021. It means his Twitter account could be suspended if he repeatedly violates the company's policies. US Presidential Election Results 2020: Donald Trump Reiterates 'Election Fraud' Charge, Twitter Flags His Tweets.

Twitter has flagged several tweets of Trump for spreading fake news or misleading content. But, his account was never suspended. "Twitter’s approach to world leaders, candidates, and public officials is based on the principle that people should be able to choose to see what their leaders are saying with clear context. This means that we may apply warnings and labels, and limit engagement to certain tweets," a Twitter spokesperson was quoted by The Verge as saying. US Presidential Election Results 2020: Twitter Flags Another Tweet of Donald Trump That Alleged 'Disappearing' Lead.

A world leader's tweets get labelled but remain visible if they violate Twitter's policy. However, if they promote terrorism or threaten violence, Twitter removed them. Currently, Trump's tweets, even if found to be untrue, are not removed. Twitter attaches a warning to such tweets and other users can also see them.

But, once Trump leaves the White House, Twitter will stop receiving special treatment from Twitter. He will be treated as a regular user. It means if his tweets violate Twitter's policy, they may be removed entirely instead of labelled. If he repeats the violation, his account would be subjected to temporary freezes, suspensions or even a permanent ban, Bloomberg reported.
