US President Donald Trump has singularly raised the profile of Twitter as a social media platform for using it to announce policy decisions, fire people and lash out at critics and opposition members. With 2018 witnessing the US mid-term elections which was touted as a referendum on Trump’s presidency, he was on an overdrive on Twitter. As this year comes to a close, here’s a look at some presidential tweets that the 45th President of the United States saw fit to post.
January 2018:
The first of the books on President Trump was launched by author Michael Wolfe who claimed to provide exclusive details of how Donald Trump’s aides saw him and considered him unfit for the post. Trump obviously unloaded on the author on Twitter, basically calling him mad.
So much Fake News is being reported. They don’t even try to get it right, or correct it when they are wrong. They promote the Fake Book of a mentally deranged author, who knowingly writes false information. The Mainstream Media is crazed that WE won the election!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 13, 2018
The month of January also saw international furore after reports emerged that Donald Trump while conducting a meeting on immigration called ‘developing countries’ such as Haiti as ‘shithole countries’. Multiple people have confirmed publicly that Trump used this specific phrase but the US President has denied it.
The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 12, 2018
Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 12, 2018
February 2018
Donald Trump in February went on to target another facet of the U.S.’s immigration system – chain migration. Chain migration was introduced to help skilled immigrants in the U.S. to unite with their family by allowing parents and spouses into the country. Trump attacked it without realising that his wife Melania Trump had used this to help her parents come to the U.S. and become Americans.
We need a 21st century MERIT-BASED immigration system. Chain migration and the visa lottery are outdated programs that hurt our economic and national security. https://t.co/rP9Gtr2E5N
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 6, 2018
Trump has gone on the tirade against news organisations that are critical of him. He has categorised CNN, the New York Times and the Washington Post as ‘Fake News media’.
So many positive things going on for the U.S.A. and the Fake News Media just doesn’t want to go there. Same negative stories over and over again! No wonder the People no longer trust the media, whose approval ratings are correctly at their lowest levels in history! #MAGA
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 11, 2018
Bad ratings @CNN & @MSNBC got scammed when they covered the anti-Trump Russia rally wall-to-wall. They probably knew it was Fake News but, because it was a rally against me, they pushed it hard anyway. Two really dishonest newscasters, but the public is wise!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 21, 2018
Trump also targeted one of America’s biggest celebrities Oprah Winfrey as she fielded questions of possibly running for the president in 2020 in a televised interview. Oprah also came out in support of a Democratic candidate for the state of Georgia’s governor’s race.
Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes. The questions were biased and slanted, the facts incorrect. Hope Oprah runs so she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 19, 2018
The stand-up comedy TV show Saturday Night Live saw Hollywood Star Alec Baldwin do an uncanny impression of the US President which obviously was not taken sportingly by Trump.
Alec Baldwin, whose dying mediocre career was saved by his terrible impersonation of me on SNL, now says playing me was agony. Alec, it was agony for those who were forced to watch. Bring back Darrell Hammond, funnier and a far greater talent!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 2, 2018
March 2018:
The US President without concern for the dignity of his office threatened the former vice-president of U.S. Joe Biden on Twitter after a televised speech by the later caught his attention.
Crazy Joe Biden is trying to act like a tough guy. Actually, he is weak, both mentally and physically, and yet he threatens me, for the second time, with physical assault. He doesn’t know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way. Don’t threaten people Joe!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 22, 2018
Trump turned his ire of being the brunt of constant criticism and negative stories in the Washington Post on to the publication’s owner Jeff Bezos and his e-commerce platform. Trump targeted Amazon for using the public postal system.
I have stated my concerns with Amazon long before the Election. Unlike others, they pay little or no taxes to state & local governments, use our Postal System as their Delivery Boy (causing tremendous loss to the U.S.), and are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 29, 2018
April 2018:
Trump used Twitter in April to the point of excessiveness. He ranted against the US Department of Justice, the FBI, Amazon, various news organisations – CNN, CBS, ABC News, The New York Times, and dubbed all ‘mainstream media’ as ‘fake news media’.
Rasmussen just came out at 51% Approval despite the Fake News Media. They were one of the three most accurate on Election Day. Just about the most inaccurate were CNN and ABC News/Washington Post, and they haven’t changed (get new pollsters). Much of the media is a Scam!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 17, 2018
Trump fired FBI Director James Comey and has ever since frequently ranted against the man who frequently speaks up against him.
Slippery James Comey, a man who always ends up badly and out of whack (he is not smart!), will go down as the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 15, 2018
Unbelievably, James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe. In other words, he was making decisions based on the fact that he thought she was going to win, and he wanted a job. Slimeball!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 15, 2018
Owing to his strained relationship with journalists, Donald Trump gave the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner a miss. But a day later he targeted the stand-up comedian Michelle Wolf for her previous evening’s performance.
While Washington, Michigan, was a big success, Washington, D.C., just didn’t work. Everyone is talking about the fact that the White House Correspondents Dinner was a very big, boring bust...the so-called comedian really “bombed.” @greggutfeld should host next year! @PeteHegseth
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 29, 2018
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a failure last year, but this year was an embarrassment to everyone associated with it. The filthy “comedian” totally bombed (couldn’t even deliver her lines-much like the Seth Meyers weak performance). Put Dinner to rest, or start over!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 30, 2018
May 2018:
Donald Trump seems to put whatever he thinks onto his Twitter page. Including his views on foreign policy. The first hint that he might scrap the Iran nuclear deal was there for everyone to see on Twitter.
The Iran Deal is defective at its core. If we do nothing, we know what will happen. In just a short time, the world’s leading state sponsor of terror will be on the cusp of acquiring the world’s most dangerous weapons.... pic.twitter.com/58qwBLzxIH
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 8, 2018
Iran’s Military Budget is up more than 40% since the Obama negotiated Nuclear Deal was reached...just another indicator that it was all a big lie. But not anymore!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 12, 2018
June 2018:
In June, Trump took aim at not less 17 individuals and/or entities through his Twitter account. In the crosshairs were a range of people including Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, bilateral trade deals, the Russian investigation, senior Democratic party leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, the NFL, his own party’s senator Jeff Flake, and ofcourse Hillary Clinton.
PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, “US Tariffs were kind of insulting” and he “will not be pushed around.” Very dishonest & weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 9, 2018
Fair Trade is now to be called Fool Trade if it is not Reciprocal. According to a Canada release, they make almost 100 Billion Dollars in Trade with U.S. (guess they were bragging and got caught!). Minimum is 17B. Tax Dairy from us at 270%. Then Justin acts hurt when called out!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 11, 2018
Why isn’t the European Union and Canada informing the public that for years they have used massive Trade Tariffs and non-monetary Trade Barriers against the U.S. Totally unfair to our farmers, workers & companies. Take down your tariffs & barriers or we will more than match you!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 8, 2018
Iconic motorcycle brand Harley Davidson also came under fire from Donald Trump after they announced their decision to move some of their plants to Europe and Thailand after the US government imposed tariffs on steel and aluminium imported into the country.
Surprised that Harley-Davidson, of all companies, would be the first to wave the White Flag. I fought hard for them and ultimately they will not pay tariffs selling into the E.U., which has hurt us badly on trade, down $151 Billion. Taxes just a Harley excuse - be patient! #MAGA
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 25, 2018
Many @harleydavidson owners plan to boycott the company if manufacturing moves overseas. Great! Most other companies are coming in our direction, including Harley competitors. A really bad move! U.S. will soon have a level playing field, or better.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 12, 2018
And Trump wanted TV host Jimmy Fallon to be a man after Fallon shed some tears on live television.
.@jimmyfallon is now whimpering to all that he did the famous “hair show” with me (where he seriously messed up my hair), & that he would have now done it differently because it is said to have “humanized” me-he is taking heat. He called & said “monster ratings.” Be a man Jimmy!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 25, 2018
July 2018:
Donald Trump took aim at another grouping that has been a long-standing U.S. ally – the European Union and many countries that are part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).
NATO countries must pay MORE, the United States must pay LESS. Very Unfair!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 10, 2018
The European Union makes it impossible for our farmers and workers and companies to do business in Europe (U.S. has a $151 Billion trade deficit), and then they want us to happily defend them through NATO, and nicely pay for it. Just doesn’t work!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 10, 2018
I told you so! The European Union just slapped a Five Billion Dollar fine on one of our great companies, Google. They truly have taken advantage of the U.S., but not for long!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 19, 2018
The legal mess surrounding Trump got murkier after the president’s longtime former lawyer Michael Cohen released recordings of his conversation with then candidate Trump about hush-money payments to Karen McDougall and adult film star Stormy Daniels.
Inconceivable that the government would break into a lawyer’s office (early in the morning) - almost unheard of. Even more inconceivable that a lawyer would tape a client - totally unheard of & perhaps illegal. The good news is that your favorite President did nothing wrong!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 21, 2018
What kind of a lawyer would tape a client? So sad! Is this a first, never heard of it before? Why was the tape so abruptly terminated (cut) while I was presumably saying positive things? I hear there are other clients and many reporters that are taped - can this be so? Too bad!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 25, 2018
It seems that Donald Trump has to compulsively respond to every criticism made against him. He just can’t seem to resist it. LeBron James in an interview with CNN anchor Don Lemon criticised the US President for politicising sports and creating divides on the national anthem issues. Ofcourse, Trump responded.
Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 4, 2018
August 2018:
In August, Trump’s aide Omarosa Manigault who became a White House staffer but was later fired revealed that she was releasing a book on her former boss. She then released multiple audio tapes of conversations she had with Donald Trump around her firing and more. Trump’s fury was unleashed against her in a Twitter tirade in which he even called her ‘a dog.’
Wacky Omarosa, who got fired 3 times on the Apprentice, now got fired for the last time. She never made it, never will. She begged me for a job, tears in her eyes, I said Ok. People in the White House hated her. She was vicious, but not smart. I would rarely see her but heard....
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 13, 2018
When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out. Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 14, 2018
September 2018
Another bombshell book on the Trump White House, this time by noted journalist and author Bob Woodward who was part of the Nixon Watergate investigation was released. The details in the book greatly undermined the credibility of Donald Trump’s office.
The Woodward book has already been refuted and discredited by General (Secretary of Defense) James Mattis and General (Chief of Staff) John Kelly. Their quotes were made up frauds, a con on the public. Likewise other stories and quotes. Woodward is a Dem operative? Notice timing?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 4, 2018
Isn’t it a shame that someone can write an article or book, totally make up stories and form a picture of a person that is literally the exact opposite of the fact, and get away with it without retribution or cost. Don’t know why Washington politicians don’t change libel laws?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 5, 2018
The Woodward book is a scam. I don’t talk the way I am quoted. If I did I would not have been elected President. These quotes were made up. The author uses every trick in the book to demean and belittle. I wish the people could see the real facts - and our country is doing GREAT!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 7, 2018
“It is mostly anonymous sources in here, why should anyone trust you? General Mattis, General Kelly said it’s not true.” @SavannahGuthrie @TODAYshow Bob Woodward is a liar who is like a Dem operative prior to the Midterms. He was caught cold, even by NBC.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 10, 2018
September also saw Trump nominate Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. However, his nomination faced protests and allegations of sexual misconduct.
The paid D.C. protesters are now ready to REALLY protest because they haven’t gotten their checks - in other words, they weren’t paid! Screamers in Congress, and outside, were far too obvious - less professional than anticipated by those paying (or not paying) the bills!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 9, 2018
The very rude elevator screamers are paid professionals only looking to make Senators look bad. Don’t fall for it! Also, look at all of the professionally made identical signs. Paid for by Soros and others. These are not signs made in the basement from love! #Troublemakers
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 5, 2018
October 2018:
Donald Trump also took aim at Twitter itself despite using it so frequently, accusing the social media platform of manipulating his account.
Twitter has removed many people from my account and, more importantly, they have seemingly done something that makes it much harder to join - they have stifled growth to a point where it is obvious to all. A few weeks ago it was a Rocket Ship, now it is a Blimp! Total Bias?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 26, 2018
The only “Collusion” is that of the Democrats with Russia and many others. Why didn’t the FBI take the Server from the DNC? They still don’t have it. Check out how biased Facebook, Google and Twitter are in favor of the Democrats. That’s the real Collusion!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 15, 2018
A judge's ruling to dismiss a defamation case filed by Stormy Daniels against Donald Trump led to the unbelievable spectacle of the President of the United States trading Twitter barbs with the porn star -- and her lawyer calling Trump a "disgusting misogynist."
“Federal Judge throws out Stormy Danials lawsuit versus Trump. Trump is entitled to full legal fees.” @FoxNews Great, now I can go after Horseface and her 3rd rate lawyer in the Great State of Texas. She will confirm the letter she signed! She knows nothing about me, a total con!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 16, 2018
Daniels replied with a pointed barb at Trump’s endowment or rather the lack of it.
Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present your president. In addition to his...umm...shortcomings, he has demonstrated his incompetence, hatred of women and lack of self control on Twitter AGAIN! And perhaps a penchant for bestiality. Game on, Tiny. https://t.co/6DpDD5ELtj
— Stormy Daniels (@StormyDaniels) October 16, 2018
Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti also weighed in.
You are a disgusting misogynist and an embarrassment to the United States. Bring everything you have, because we are going to demonstrate to the world what a complete shyster and liar you are. How many other women did you cheat on your wife with while you had a baby at home? https://t.co/npOKOEFju6
— Michael Avenatti (@MichaelAvenatti) October 16, 2018
November 2018:
Donald Trump gobsmacked the world after he tweeted a Games of Throne-style poster featuring his own photograph to announce sanctions against Iran. On the poster was written “Sanctions are Coming”. The font style of the text on the picture resembled the signature line of Games of Thrones’ first season “winter is coming”.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 2, 2018
The Iranians not to be left behind, tweeted back.
Qasem Soleimani, the Commander of the Quds Force, Iran’s external security agency, has posted this image on his Instagram in response to Trump’s tweet. pic.twitter.com/l1zdRIBK9f
— Yashar Ali 🐘 (@yashar) November 3, 2018
As the midterm elections neared, Trump having being told that the Republican Party would do badly in the polls was looking at anything to blame his future loss. After Twitter, he targeted Google for ‘bias’ against him.
December 2018:
Trump’s tirade is unending and the list of people who he targets gets longer by the day. An interview by Trump’s former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in which he soundly criticised the President, Donald Trump used his extensive vocabulary to call Tillerson “dumb as a rock.”
Mike Pompeo is doing a great job, I am very proud of him. His predecessor, Rex Tillerson, didn’t have the mental capacity needed. He was dumb as a rock and I couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. He was lazy as hell. Now it is a whole new ballgame, great spirit at State!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 7, 2018
These tweets are just a few of the hundreds of tweets that Donald Trump has sent after entering the White House. Some people like Special Counsel Robert Mueller find almost weekly mention on the Twitter timeline while others like the Democratic Party leaders are hit out at when needed.
