Donald Trump Says 'Reasonably Attractive News From Pakistan and India, Hopefully End in Sight'
The US President, however, did not elaborate on 'attracting news'.
New Delhi, February 28: Amid brewing tensions between India and Pakistan, US President Donald Trump on Thursday said he had some 'reasonably attractive' and 'reasonably decent' news from the two Asian countries. The US President, however, did not elaborate. Addressing a press conference in Hanoi, Vietnam, Trump said he hoped the conflict between India and Pakistan will be coming to an end.
"I think reasonably attractive news from Pakistan and India. They have been going at it and we have been involved and have them stop. We have some reasonably decent news. Hopefully, it's going to be coming to an end. It's been going on for a long time, decades and decades," Trump told reporters on India-Pakistan tensions. Earlier today, the US asked Pakistan to abide by its UN Security Council commitments to deny terrorists safe haven and block their access to funds.
“Cross-border terrorism, such as the recent attack on India's CRPF on February 14, poses a grave threat to the security of the region. We reiterate our call for Pakistan to abide by its United Nations Security Council commitments to deny terrorists safe haven and block their access to funds,” a State Department spokesperson said. "The United States calls on India and Pakistan to cease all cross-border military activity and for a return to stability,” the spokesperson added.
Tensions have reached a peak between India and Pakistan after Pakistan Air Force's jets attempted to target military installations on the Indian side on Wednesday, a day after the Indian Air Force conducted strikes on a Jaish-e-Mohammed camp in Pakistan's Balakot. India conducted a major preemptive strike on a Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp early Tuesday, killing a “very large number” of terrorists, trainers and senior commanders. India’s action comes close on the heels of the Pulwama incident in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed in one of the deadliest terror strikes in decades in Jammu and Kashmir.
