Donald Trump Returns From Singapore After Meeting Kim Jong-Un, Says 'Sleep Well Tonight, no Nuclear Threat from North Korea'
Trump had arrived in Singapore on June 10 to join North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for a historic summit which saw Pyongyang dismantle its nuclear arsenal in return for economic help and security guarantees.
Washington, June 13: Soon after landing home after a long trip to Singapore, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was interesting and very positive and claimed that there is no longer nuclear threat from North Korea.
Trump took to Twitter and said, “Just landed - a long trip, but everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office. There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea. Meeting with Kim Jong Un was an interesting and very positive experience. North Korea has great potential for the future!”
In another tweet, the US President added, “Before taking office people were assuming that we were going to War with North Korea. President Obama said that North Korea was our biggest and most dangerous problem. No longer - sleep well tonight!”.
Meanwhile, Kim Jong Un invited Trump to come to Pyongyang during their historic Singapore summit and also agreed to visit the United States, state media reported today. "Kim Jong Un invited Trump to visit Pyongyang at a convenient time and Trump invited Kim Jong Un to visit the US," the state-run KCNA news agency said.
Trump (71) had arrived in Singapore on June 10 to join Kim Jong Un for a historic summit which saw Pyongyang dismantle its nuclear arsenal in return for economic help and security guarantees. Trump landed at Paya Lebar Airbase on board Air Force One after cutting short his time at the G7 summit in Canada.
On his arrival, Trump was received by Singapore's Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. Hours before Trump arrived, Kim had arrived in a jet and was received by Balakrishnan before heading to St Regis Hotel.
Trump described his first-ever historic meeting with Kim Jong-un as "really fantastic" and shook hands at Capella Singapore hotel in Singapore's Sentosa Island after months of diplomatic twists and turns. The two leaders had a one-on-one meeting, followed by an expanded meeting including their top aides and a working lunch. "A lot of progress. Really, very positive, I think better than anybody could have expected, top of the line, really good," Trump said after the lunch.
The summit and the meeting of the two leaders is believed to be good for the Pacific Region and will play a key role in defusing tensions between the two Koreas as well as between the US and North Korea.
