Donald Trump Reacts to Iran's 'Revenge Attack' on US Military Bases in Iraq, Says 'All is Well...Casualties Being Assessed'

Washington, January 8: United States President Donald Trump, in his first reaction to the airstrikes by Iran at two US military bases in Iraq, said "all is well". "All is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! (sic)," Trump said in his initial reaction Twitter.

The President signalled that the United States would not be deterred by this attack, reiterating that their military is way better than any other counterpart. "We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning (sic)," he added.

Iran Foreign Minister Javad Zarif also issued a statement, claiming that the attack by Tehran is not an act of aggression but an act of self-defence ins response to the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani. The airstrike, he said, is justified under provisions listed in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

"Iran took and concluded proportionate measures in self-defense under Article 51 of UN Charter targeting base from which cowardly armed attack against our citizens and senior officials were launched. We do not seek escalation or war, but will defend ourselves against any aggression," Zarif said.
