Washington, June 4: The White House on Monday released the preliminary schedule of US President Donald Trump's summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un in Singapore on June 12.

As per the statement issued by White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, the first meeting between the two heads of states will begin at 9am. The two sides will further hold delegation-level and bilateral talks throughout the day. A joint press statement is also likely to be issued by Trump after Jong-un after the much anticipated summit.

The timing of delegation and ministerial-level meetings will be released by the White House shortly, Sanders said. "The advance team in Singapore is finalizing preparations and will remain in place until the summit begins," she added.

The Trump-Kim summit, which came amid a sudden thaw in Washington-Pyongyang relations, was almost chalked out in the past month after the US President said he was disappointed by North Korea's "hostile behaviour". Trump's statement was preceded by Jong-un's threat that he would walk out of the dialogue process if the US attempts to coerce him.

However, a recovery in ties came after South Korean president Moon Jae-in acted as mediator, appealing both Pyongyang and Washington to reconsider their approach.

Seoul's intervention compelled the North to dispatch Kim Yong-chol, the second-in-command, to hold a dialogue with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Shortly after Yong-Pompeo meet, Trump confirmed his participation in the June 12 summit. The confirmation was reciprocated by Jong-un.
