Washington, Sep 7: US President Donald Trump on Friday said he wants Attorney General Jeff Sessions to investigate and uncover the identity of the senior administration official who wrote an opinion-editorial criticising Trump presidency in The New York Times. Donald Trump said it was necessary to identify the 'anonymous' US official for national security reasons, reported Washington Post.

“I would say Jeff should be investigating who the author of that piece was because I really believe it’s national security,” Trump told US media. "If the anonymous author has a high-level security clearance and he goes into a high-level meeting concerning China or Russia or North Korea or something, I don’t want him in those meetings,” the US President added.

Asked if he trusts his White House staffers, Trump said, “I do, but what I do now is I look around the room. I say, ‘Hey, if I don’t know somebody . . . ’ We have a really well-run, smooth-running White House. It’s a well-oiled machine. It is running beautifully." Earlier, Trump labelled the anonymous writer "gutless" and the newspaper as "phony".

The unnamed senior Trump official in his op-ed 'I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration' wrote that members of the administration are working to frustrate parts of the president's agenda to protect the country from his "worst inclinations".

“The dilemma — which he (Donald Trump) does not fully grasp — is that many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations. I would know. I am one of them," the anonymous US official stated.
