Uganda, September 10: Dickson Ndiema Marangach, the Ugandan man accused of killing his partner, Olympic long-distance runner Rebecca Cheptegei, has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Dickson Ndiema Marangach had sustained burn injuries during the same attack in which Rebecca Cheptegei was killed. Ndiema was pronounced dead at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, the same facility where Cheptegei died last week.

Rebecca Cheptegei, who finished 44th in the marathon at the Paris Olympics this summer, was in a relationship with Marangach. According to Kenyan police, the couple had a dispute on September 1st, leading Marangach to enter her home, douse her with gasoline, and set her on fire. Dickson Ndiema Marangach Dies

Marangach, who sustained burns on about a third of his body during the attack, was also treated at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Authorities had planned to charge him with murder if he recovered. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.

Rebecca Cheptegei will be laid to rest on September 14 near her family home, as announced by Uganda’s Olympic Committee. The attack, which local media reported was witnessed by Cheptegei’s daughters, occurred just weeks after she competed in the women’s marathon at the Paris Olympics, finishing 44th.
