The next day, farm workers discovered a large dead crocodile suspected of killing Yunus along the riverbank. It was found in the undergrowth near a palm oil plantation. After cutting it open and finding no human remains, local residents from Bhom Lama and Paya Meuligo villages are now fearful and hesitant to go near the river.

Indonesia has 14 crocodile species, including large and aggressive estuarine crocodiles that thrive in the region. Overfishing and habitat loss have pushed these crocodiles closer to villages. Combined with locals using rivers for bathing and fishing, this has increased the risk of crocodile attacks.
