Mumbai, August 8: A Chinese woman from Jiangsu Province village who learnt acupuncture online was sentenced to 18 months in prison after a man she treated died from heart failure. Investigations also revealed that Wang lacked formal acupuncture training. She had taught herself through online videos and gained "clinical experience" by practising on herself and her husband. Wang was charged with illegal medical practice for operating an unlicensed private clinic at home, which had serious repercussions. Given that she had compensated the victim's family and secured their understanding, the court sentenced her to 18 months in prison, with two years' probation and a fine.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow and promote healing. If not performed properly, acupuncture can have adverse side effects, including heart failure. It’s important to consult with a healthcare provider to determine if acupuncture is appropriate for individual health needs.
