The death of a man 13 days after undergoing a major dental procedure has caused widespread shock in China. The incident was brought to public attention by the man's daughter through an online post on September 2.
According to the Shine report, the man was identified by his surname - Huang. Huang underwent the extensive procedure at Yongkang Deway Dental Hospital on August 14, where 23 teeth were extracted and 12 implants inserted in a single session using the “immediate restoration” method. The procedure was performed by a surgeon surnamed Yuan, who has five years of experience and specialises in root canal treatment, impacted wisdom tooth extraction, and complete dentures. Following the procedure, Huang reportedly experienced constant pain. On August 28, he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and passed away. Shu, his daughter, expressed her grief, saying, “I never thought my dad would pass so quickly. An official from the Yongkang Municipal Health Bureau commented on September 3, “Since there was a 13-day gap between the tooth extractions and his death, we are still investigating the cause.” Xiang Guolin, director of the Dental Medicine Centre at the Hospital of Universal Love in Wuhan, told Jimu News that while there are no official guidelines for the number of teeth that can be extracted at one time, the general maximum is 10.
