Shaanxi, August 2023: A five-month-old baby's health took a dangerous turn when an embroidery needle was discovered lodged in her heart after she suffered convulsions at her home. Concerned parents rushed the infant to the hospital as she experienced uncontrollable shaking and loss of consciousness. Doctors at the Xi'an Children's Hospital in Shaanxi Province, China, quickly performed a series of tests, including an X-ray, which revealed a shocking sight: a 4cm embroidery needle embedded in the baby's heart.
According to the Mirror reports, the needle had pierced through the baby's stomach wall and penetrated the left ventricle of her heart. An emergency surgery was swiftly arranged, and medical professionals successfully removed the needle. Following the procedure, the baby was closely monitored in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further treatment and observation. The parents were baffled by the presence of the needle in their child's body, explaining that they had no knowledge of how it could have ended up there. It's believed that the needle was unintentionally ingested by the baby and then managed to puncture the left ventricle by passing through the stomach wall. While the successful surgery is a relief, the duration the baby needed to stay in the hospital for recovery remains unclear. This incident highlights the unpredictability of accidental foreign object ingestion in young children. This unsettling occurrence isn't the first of its kind in China.
