Jakarta, July 31: In a shocking incident, a man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his friend to death following an argument over the classic riddle, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" The tragic event occurred on July 24 in Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi province.
According to a report published by the Independent, the suspect, identified as DR, had invited his friend, Kadir Markus, for a drink. After consuming several rounds of alcohol, DR posed the riddle to Markus. The conversation quickly escalated into a heated debate. Attempting to avoid further conflict, Markus decided to leave. However, DR pursued him, first on a bike and then on foot, before attacking him multiple times with a badik, a traditional dagger of southern Sulawesi's coastal tribes. Despite the efforts of bystanders who rushed Markus to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Both men were reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Tongkuno police chief Iptu Abdul Hasan confirmed the arrest of DR. The police have seized the weapon used in the crime and a pair of trousers worn by the suspect. DR has been charged with murder and faces up to 18 years in prison if convicted. Markus was laid to rest on July 26 while the investigation continues. In a similar case last year, an Indonesian man fatally stabbed his friend after being removed from a WhatsApp group. The dispute, which began in a chat group called XTC Beer 188, centred around motorcycles. Feeling hurt and rejected after being removed from the group by his friend and administrator Adrian, 29, Toyiban confronted him in person. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, during which Toyiban used a sharp weapon to attack Adrian, resulting in his death.
