Believe it or not but South African genius Elon Musk is the real-life Marvel’s hero Iron Man. His latest accomplishment will have you nodding affirmatively to the above statement. The 46-year-old launched Tesla roadster, a shining cherry red four-seater sports car in SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy touted to be world’s most powerful rocket (it can carry 140,000 pounds of cargo into lower Earth orbit). The highly anticipated maiden test flight of the rocket just did not carry Musk’s car but also its driver – a spacesuited mannequin named Starman. The stunning photographs of the perfect launch of Tesla Roadster with live views showing the car in Earth’s orbit and extending into asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter farther in the Solar System are bound to leave you thrilled.
Not everyday a car is launched into space. Well, then again not everyone is Elon Musk to plan such an extensive flight. Cape Canaveral in Florida burst out in excitement as the massive Falcon Heavy rocked of SpaceX fired its 27 engines to send Tesla Roadster with its unique driver into the orbit. This was the same launchpad that served as a base for the US missions to Moon four decades ago. Official handles of Tesla, SpaceX and Elon Musk were sharing the proud moment in pictures of the maiden ride and it did leave the viewers completely gobsmacked.
Pictures and videos flooding the Twitter showed the dummy driver as he ‘rode’ Tesla Roadster in style. With its right hand on the steering wheel and left arm stretched casually along the open left side of the car, Starman drifted in his premier vehicle in the space. SpaceX which were live streaming with three cameras mounted on the car.
The live footage of Tesla Roadster as it released into space is indeed priceless. At one point in the video, the viewers can see the reflection of planet earth on the shiny automobile. After the live stream stopped, Musk tweeted about the Roadster completing the third and final burn successfully. Tesla CEO writes, “Third burn successful. Exceeded Mars orbit and kept going to the Asteroid Belt.”
