London, September 17: British Airways pilots on Wednesday called off their strike which was scheduled on September 27. Earlier on September 9 and 10 also, British Airways pilots had gone on a strike demanding a pay hike. The British Airline Pilots' Association (BALPA) said that the two-day strike called by the union had demonstrated the anger and resolve of pilots. It also asked BA to take action immediately. The union expressed hope that BA would now negotiate seriously in ending the long-pending dispute of salary hike of pilots. Earlier, BA had offered 11.5 percent pay-hike, which was rejected by the BALPA. According to reports, the airline had already cancelled flights for the next week. During the two-day flight earlier this month, several major flights, including the profitable route to New York, Washington, Los Angeles and Boston from London were affected. Also, around two lakh passengers faced inconvenience. British Airways also issued a statement after the protest in which it expressed regret for the inconvenience being caused to its flyers across the world.
Pilots walked out for the first time in the company's chequered 100-year history, sparked by a bitter and long-running feud, reported PTI. The airline is owned by London-listed International Airlines Group (IAG).
