Mumbai, September 13: Unaware of the risks associated with the procedure, a British woman who had travelled to Turkey for a Brazilian butt lift surgery, tragically died.  In November 2022, in the Medicana Kadikoy hospital in Istanbul, Melissa Kerr, 31, passed away during the treatment. Prior to the £3,200 procedure, she exchanged messages with a hospital staff member, asked for pictures of other patients, and said she was anxious.

When Kerr's bodily fat was injected into her buttocks after surgery, it went into a vein and obstructed her pulmonary artery. According to Norfolk's Coroner's Court, she unfortunately passed away on the table with a pulmonary thromboembolism listed as the cause of death. Brazilian Rap Star MC Atrevida Dies After Botched Butt Augmentation Procedure at ‘Queen of Plastics’ Clinic in Rio.

Brazilian butt lifts are connected with a fatality rate that is likely to be in excess of one in 4,000, according to consultant plastic surgeon Simon Withey, who was invited to review the facts in the case and provide a report for Kerr's inquest as an expert witness, as cited by Mirror News. He stated that it was "quite possible" that Kerr would not have undergone the treatment if the risks had been disclosed to her "before she was financially committed to do so." Brazilian Butt-Lift Surgery Kills Transgender Woman Who Travelled to Miami to Get Bigger Bum Despite Florida's Restriction Against Fat Injection.

Previously, following complications from a botched butt lift, a professional model had passed away in Brazil. The 40-year-old Lygia Fazio passed unexpectedly in her home, leaving behind David and Thor, two of her toddlers. The single mother was also sent to the hospital three weeks before her death after having a stroke as a result of chronic problems brought on by the unpermitted cosmetic treatment.
