The accused identified as Mirian Santana was apprehended on the first day of her job at a facility in Coroados, Sao Paulo. The woman later revealed that she had treated 30 patients at a hospital before her arrest. According to reports, Santana purchased her fake medical certificate online for USD 8.
According to a report in New York Post, Mirian Santana came under suspicion when other healthcare professionals checked her registration number, which belonged to an actual doctor. Reportedly, Santana's diploma mentioned that she completed her coursework in 2022, but the degree program did not even begin until that year.
Mirian Santana admitted to buying the document online when confronted by the hospital authorities. During interrogation, she told the police that she was a speech therapist which paid are nearly USD 802 a month. Later, she secured the job at the clinic through an outsourcing company that engaged in a competitive bidding process with City Hall. As per reports, the Brazilian authorities initiated an investigation against the accused regarding document forgery. Santana was arrested for unlawfully practicing a profession, committing ideological forgery, using a counterfeit document, endangering lives, and attempting embezzlement. As per local news outlet, Santana was transported to Tupi Paulista in São Paulo, where she will be detained while the Civil Police conduct their investigation. In another case of document forgery, a 22-year-old man along with his accomplices allegedly tried to secure a bank loan by replacing his father's Aadhar card and other documents with his employer's. According to the police, the perpetrators did so with the intention of getting a vehicle loan worth Rs 26 lakh. The incident came to light after the employer became suspicious of the miscreants and lodged a complaint with the police. An investigation has been launched regarding the matter, and the search for the culprits is underway.
