Novo Oriente, October 12: A 54-year-old man in Brazil has been arrested for allegedly holding his wife, seven children, and mother-in-law captive for two decades, sexually abusing several of them. The horrifying crimes came to light after one of the daughters managed to escape their home in Novo Oriente and report the abuse to authorities.

According to report in The Sun, the man held his 40-year-old wife captive for nearly their entire marriage, allowing her to leave the house only under his supervision. The couple's seven children, aged 3 to 22, were also reportedly subjected to physical and sexual abuse. The man allegedly drilled holes in the walls to spy on the girls and raped several of them. He also forced them to undergo abortions. The daughter's escape enabled authorities to launch a month-long investigation, culminating in a raid on the property. During the investigation, the man was also accused of burying three fetuses on the property after forcing his wife to miscarry by administering medication.

He has been charged with false imprisonment, rape of a vulnerable person, psychological violence, abortion, and concealment of a corpse. The man is currently in custody and denies all charges. Further investigation into the case is underway.
