Leicester, September 3: An 80-year-old Indian-origin man, Bhim Sen Kohli, was allegedly "kicked to death" by a group of children in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, near Leicester, on Sunday evening, September 1. Leicestershire Police have arrested five school children, aged between 12 and 14, on suspicion of murder following Kohli's death on Tuesday.
According to a report in The Guardian, the attack occurred around 6:30 p.m. while Kohli, described as a "kind and considerate" dog walker, was just 30 seconds away from his home. According to sources, the group of young attackers fled the scene after brutally assaulting him, leaving Kohli screaming in agony. He was later found lying under a tree by his daughter, who rushed to his side. Emergency services transported him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The children in custody include a boy and a girl aged 14, and two girls and a boy aged 12. They are currently being interviewed by police as part of the ongoing investigation, which has now been classified as a murder inquiry. Kohli’s daughter, speaking to local media, expressed her heartbreak, revealing that her father had been walking his dog in the park when he was attacked. She recounted the horrifying details, stating that the children had "kicked him in the neck and spine," ultimately leading to his death.
Kohli’s neighbour, Deep Singh Kalia, who had known him for over 30 years, paid tribute to his late friend. Describing Kohli as a "kind and considerate man," Kalia highlighted his love for gardening and his daily visits to the allotment. Kohli, originally from Punjab, India, was a well-known figure in the community, having owned a factory that made jumpers and cardigans.
Leicestershire Police have called on the public for any information that could assist in the investigation. The park remains cordoned off as the authorities continue with their investigation.
