New York, August 23: In a tragic incident, a bear attacked a child playing in the woods in Westchester County in the US on Tuesday morning, according to officials, sending the child to the hospital. Fortunately, the boy was able to walk off the ghastly bear attack with just a few injuries. The bear was caught and sent for medical tests to determine whether it had rabies or not.

According to the New York Post report, the 7-year-old boy was behind his home on Hickory Kingdom Road in Bedford around 11 am when a bear attacked him. One neighbour took a photo of the bear after hearing a scream. Following this, the parents of the child called 911 emergency. The North Castle Police Department responded to a 911 call from the child’s parents and quickly came to the child's rescue. They successfully chased away the bear, but it remained in the backyard where the attack occurred. As per the reports, the child suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by EMS to Westchester Medical Center for treatment. According to the DEC, the bear was euthanised by officers and taken by the state Department of Environmental Conservation to the Westchester County Department of Health, where it will be tested for rabies. In July, a woman hiker was killed in an encounter with a bear on a trail near Yellowstone National Park in Montana state of the US. The department's wardens and bear specialists and staff from other agencies found that the woman had wounds consistent with a bear attack. They also found tracks from an adult grizzly bear and at least one cub near the site.
