Dhaka [Bangladesh], June 17: Four people have been killed in floods in Moulvibazar's Komolganj Upazila in Bangladesh. At least five people are still missing. A thousand others have been stranded since the night of June 15. The names and identities of the missing people are not known yet, Dhaka Tribune reported.
The hilly water has damaged flood protection embankments in the district worsening the flood situation. The army has begun rescuing stranded locals in Kulaura and Rajnagar near the overflowing Monu River.
Deputy Commissioner Md Tofayel Ahmed said 143 tons of rice has been allocated for the flood-affected areas. It has already been distributed Tk180,000 among the victims, he added. Five flood shelters have been opened.
The shelters are at Moulvibazar Government College, Moulvibazar Government Women's College, Primary Teachers Institute, Polytechnic Institute, and Technical School and College.
