Mumbai, September 29: A couple from Northwest Arkansas, Darien Urban, 21, and Shalene Ehlers, are accused of trying to sell their baby boy for $1,000 and beer, as they were unable to take care of their three dogs and the baby according to court documents. The alleged incident occurred at a Rogers campground, where the family had been living for about three months. Deputies arrested the couple A judge set their bond at $50,000 each, and they were released on Thursday. The parents are scheduled to appear in court on October 29.

When police arrived, the couple was not there, and the baby was taken to a children's hospital. A witness reported approaching the couple's camper, asking to take the baby overnight, and providing them with beers. Deputies discovered a letter allegedly signed by the couple, Darien Urban and Shalene Ehlers, stating they agreed to accept a $1,000 cashier's check for their baby on September 21, 2024. The letter read: "I, Darien Urban and Shalene Ehlers, are signing our rights over to Cody Nathaniel Martin... for $1,000." Detectives also obtained cellphone video of the parents signing the letter. During questioning, the couple claimed the baby was "undergoing an adoption" and that the video was recorded to finalize the process.

They were arrested and charged with felony endangerment of a child and attempted relinquishment of a minor. A judge set their bond at $50,000 each, and both were released on Thursday. They are scheduled to appear in court on October 29.
