Washington, Jan 18: In his most scathing attack on the US mainstream press so far, President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced the list of 'fake news award winners', placing the likes of CNN, NYT and Washington Post among them.

The full list of the spoof awardees was uploaded on the Republican Party's website -- the link to which was posted by President Trump on his twitter account.

The top 10 list includes Nobel-prize winning economist Paul Krugman on the first spot. The reason being: his prediction of the global economy entering into a dark period with the election of Trump for the President's post in November 2016.

ABC News' Brian Ross nabbed the second spot for his story on Trump's former aide Michael Flynn. Ross had reported that Trump, during his presidential campaign, had directed Flynn to make contacts with Moscow for meddling in the elections. The report was found "erroneous" by ABC, which had suspended the veteran scribe for four weeks without pay.

New York Times, Time Magazine, Washington Post and CNN were among the other recipients of the spoof awards. To check the full list, click here.

After releasing the list of fake award winners, Trump, in a bid to clarify his position on press freedom, said, "Despite some very corrupt and dishonest media coverage, there are many great reporters I respect and lots of GOOD NEWS for the American people to be proud of! (sic)".
