After Nawaz Sharif & Imran Khan, Ayesha Gulalai Humiliated: PTI Women Activists Throw Eggs, Tomatoes at Pakistani Politician

Gulalai, who has levelled allegations of harassment and corruption against Imran Khan, was attacked outside her hotel in the city where she had come to attend an event organised by the Suba Bahawalpur Bahali Tehreek (SBBT).

Bahawalpur, March 17: Amid rising incidences of attacks on political leaders in Pakistan, Ayesha Gulalai – a Pakistani politician was attacked by a group of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)  women activist on Friday. As per reports by ANI, women activists of the Imran Khan-led PTI threw eggs and tomatoes on rebel MNA Ayesha Gulalai in Bahawalpur on Friday evening.

As per reports by GEO TV, Gulalai, who has levelled allegations of harassment and corruption against Imran Khan, was attacked outside her hotel in the city where she had come to attend an event organised by the Suba Bahawalpur Bahali Tehreek (SBBT). It must be noted that Gulalai has also been a Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since 2013.

Attacks on politicians in Pakistan have been on a rise. The attack on Ayesha Gulalai comes days after a shoe was thrown on former prime minister Nawaz Sharif during his visit to Jamia Naeemia seminary in Garhi Shahu on March 11. Three suspects were arrested after the episode. Also, in a similar incident on Saturday, a religious extremist blackened the face of Foreign Minister Khwaja Asif with ink during a PML-N workers convention in Sialkot. A man was arrested after the incident. Also, a shoe was thrown on Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal in Narowal in the last week.

On Wednesday, a shoe was hurled at Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan during a rally in Gujrat city in Punjab province. The incident took place when the PTI Chief was addressing the crowd atop a vehicle. As per reports by Dawn, a shoe came flying and hit PTI leader Aleem Khan, who was standing right next to Imran Khan. The attacker was, however, overpowered by the crowd.

Gulalai said that those PTI activists shouting slogans at her were not at fault and described the protesting activists as her sisters. To recall, Gulalai had joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2012 and was till last year a nominated member of the PTI Central Committee. In February this year, Gulalai launched her own party -- the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Gulalai).

Gulalai quit PTI in August 2017 after blaming Imran Khan for sending her inappropriate text messages in October 2013. Reports by ANI state that she also said that the PTI has failed to guarantee respect and dignity to women and refused to resign from National Assembly seat. She is the first female MNA from the FATA.
