Badakhshan, January 6: At least 30 people were killed in a gold mine collapse in Kohistan district of Badakhshan province in Afghanistan on Sunday, reported Tolo News. According to the initial reports, villagers had dug a 200-feet (60-meter) deep shaft in a riverbed in search for gold. When the villagers were inside, the wall fell in. Meanwhile, the rescue operations are going on and the number of people killed in the incident is likely to be increased. According to AFP, Villagers are also helping in the rescue operations. Landslides are frequent in the northern mountainous regions of Afghanistan, due to its geographic landmark.
